Our flying field is situated in the suburb of Oak Valley on the Charters Towers highway, approximately 20 kilometres west of Townsville city centre. After turning into the Oak Valley entrance and crossing over the railway line then turn left and follow the main road to the flying field gates.

At the time of cyclone Althea making its debut in Townsville in 1972, the Castle Hill Amateur Radio Model Aeronauts (CHARMA) was operating from a field across from the 162nd Recce Squadron on University Drive. That field is now mostly the suburb of Annandale.
